Dr. Socorro Reyes of JRIG moderates panel on elite reform and inclusive democracy at ADMU EDSA 40 event

As part of commemorating the 4 decades since the EDSA Revolution, the Ateneo de Manila University Political Science Department organized the "EDSA @ 40: Unfinished Revolution, Ongoing Reform? A Critical Commemoration and Forward-Looking Dialogue", last February 20 at the Leong Hall, Ateneo De Manila University. The event is in collaboration with the De La Salle University - Jesse M. Robredo Institute of Governance (DLSU-JRIG), the Ateneo Martial Law Museum and Library, UP Third World Studies Center, Ateneo School of Government, and the John J Carroll Institute on Church and Social Issues. Dr. Socorro Reyes, DLSU-JRIG Visiting Fellow, moderated one of the panels on inclusive democracy.

This forum served as a forum for dialogue, taking a critical look at EDSA's legacy for the present generation through multi-sectoral and intergenerational panel discussions on political participation and democracy. Dr. Reyes led the panel titled "Beyond Elite Reform: The Struggle for Inclusive Democracy", which included Anti-Dynasty Network Co-Convenor Atty. Michaela Defensor, JJICSI Senior Program Consultant, Dr. Anna Marie Karaos, and UP Diliman Anthropology Department Assistant Professor Dr. Efenita Taqueban as panelists.

The forum was also graced by Dr. Maria Serena Diokno, UP Diliman Professor Emeritus of History and former chairperson of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) as she delivered her keynote speech reflecting on EDSA's legacy and how memory can become a form of resistance.
